Recycle Glass, Enhance Spaces: Discover a Custom BEALSTONE® Terrazzo Made from Crushed Glass
Located in the heart of Waterloo amid lush greenery, Le Côté Vert is an exceptional venue that includes a 4-star hotel with 47 rooms and a gourmet restaurant, “La Cuisine au Vert.” Building on this hotel and culinary offering, the owners envisioned a new space: “Le Cellier du Côté Vert.” At the crossroads of lifestyle, design, and oenology, this boutique completes the experience for hotel and restaurant guests.

From former bank to refined cellar
The location chosen for this project was originally a bank! Safes, counters, and armored windows were cleared out to make way for a complete renovation. The only element that did not need to be demolished was the original tile flooring, which could directly receive a new coating.
Valérie Evrard wanted to create a warm, classy, and original atmosphere in this space while maintaining harmony with the identity of her establishment, where green is a unifying theme.
Very quickly, two flagship products from the Namur-based company BEAL International were chosen: BEALSTONE® Terrazzo for the floor, and MORTEX® mineral coating for the walls.

A personalized and symbolic Terrazzo
The project’s most unique feature is the floor. Made with BEALSTONE® coating, which allows for great customization in both color and aggregates, it incorporates glass shards from wine bottles consumed by restaurant clients.
“Whenever a bottle was finished, we set it aside to break later. The idea was to include a piece of our story and that of our customers in the floor we walk on every day.” — Valérie Evrard
Valérie personally invested in this stage, spending hours removing labels, breaking bottles, and sorting the glass by shades of green. The shards were then integrated into a light mineral base, creating an elegant green/white contrast, perfectly resonating with the name “Le Côté Vert.”
This approach resulted in a unique, symbolic, and sustainable terrazzo floor—the project’s true centerpiece.

Walls made to highlight the products
The walls were finished with MORTEX® micro-mortar in a light beige shade. Inspired by nature and chosen to harmonize with both the floor and dark wood furniture, this shade was selected by Valérie with advice from BEAL’s sales manager, who visited several times during construction.
“The MORTEX® mineral coating provides a neutral and understated backdrop that perfectly enhances our products. We chose this same shade for our large custom counter, also covered in MORTEX®,” says Valérie Evrard.
Durable, aesthetic, and easy to maintain, micro-mortar is an ideal solution for high-traffic spaces like a store.

No architect, but great support
This project was carried out without an architect, only with a contractor and, of course, with an applicator trained and recommended by BEAL International.
“We had a clear vision of what we wanted, and BEAL offered tremendous support. We stayed in contact throughout the project, which helped me a lot.” — Valérie Evrard
She also highlights the importance of the samples made by BEAL, which allowed her to refine the final look of her custom terrazzo:
“Without those four or five trials, we probably wouldn’t have achieved exactly the floor we dreamed of.” — Valérie Evrard

Result: guaranteed ‘Wow’ effect
The challenge succeeded: as soon as guests walk in, many comment on the floor, ask questions, and even request the applicator’s contact information.
Besides its aesthetics, the BEALSTONE® coating also impressed with its durability and ease of maintenance—essential for a high-traffic space.
“Our priority was to create a wow effect, but also to have a practical, sustainable surface. The final result matches exactly what we imagined.” — Valérie Evrard
Le Cellier du Côté Vert perfectly illustrates the strengths of BEAL International’s BEALSTONE® and MORTEX® products: a floor that tells a story, walls that highlight the displayed objects, and a lasting design crafted to delight and inspire visitors.
